The Wildlife Kids Club supports literacy and education by providing information about exciting and informational books. We aim to help parents and teachers find useful resources for promoting scientific discovery and wonderment. In the months to come we shall be reviewing books relating to both nature and education. Books and other educational resources will be available for purchase through our Webstore; all sales will help to support the care of the animals at our Wildlife Sanctuary.

This spell binding narrative highlights the life lessons of a Cherokee boy raised during the Great Depression in southern Appalachia. Cultural codes of knowledge and respect for the land are imparted to Little Tree by his grandparents as he explores the Tennessee mountains. Later, his native upbringing becomes set in counterpoint to the harsh cruelties imposed during a forced attendance at boarding school. The book paints a vivid picture of cross-cultural perception and the struggles and joys of living with the land. A "must read" book.
